Fatherhood Workshop

Rural Solutions hosted a Fatherhood Workshop training in Akron, CO at The Washington County Event Center on Friday June 1, 2007.

Appreciating and Working with Colorado Fathers:

Meeting the Challenges of Supporting Fathers, Mothers, Children and Families

Presented by Doug Gertner

Purpose of the Workshop was to:

  • Strengthen capacity to understand and serve fathers and families.
  • Discover and understand the importance of fathers in children's lives.
  • Learn about existing fatherhood programs and interventions.
  • Review aspects of a 'father-friendly' environment.
  • In small groups with your own community representatives create an action plan to address the needs, provide support and strengthen the role of fathers in your community.

The Fatherhood Workshop is funded by the Colorado Department of Human Services Promoting Responsible Fatherhood Community Access Grant and Rural Solutions Fatherhood Initiative.

Doug Gertner speaks to the group about the different programs

that are available for fathers and his experiences of going to

programs that weren't exactly father friendly.

Rich Batten, the Director of  The Colorado Fatherhood Initiative from the Colorado Department of Human Services, talks about the Fatherhood Initiative, who received grants and the up and coming grant opportunities.

After break out sessions, everybody went to each group and listened to why they came up with the reasons for each topic that they did. Kevin Brown and his daughters catered the lunch for the workshop.  Here you can see Kevin teaching his daughters proper food handling and preparation
